Charlotte Frances Burton, Richard Burton’s granddaughter, introduced this ‘Burton-Taylor circus’ which became a cult favourite despite debuting as a box-office flop.
Directed by Joseph Losey in 1968 and starring Elizabeth Tsylor, Richard Burton, Noel Coward, and Joanna Shimkus, Boom! brings a minor Tennessee Williams play to the silver screen.
In a beautifully shot, “spectacularly miscast” film of unintentional humour, Boom! is best enjoyed by an enthusiastic audience ready to relish the ride of raucous, unhinged cinema.
